Ingredients
Insect-derived nutrition

Black Soldier Fly.

A full BSF (Hermetia illucens) ingredient stack — meal, defatted meal, lauric-acid-rich oil, whole dried larvae, and frass fertilizer. Circular-economy nutrition for aquaculture, pet food, poultry, swine, and the soil itself.

What it is

Waste streams
to protein stacks.

"The larva does the heavy lifting — diverting organic waste out of landfill and converting it into complete protein, high-quality fat, and a soil-building fertilizer."

Black soldier fly larvae consume more than twice their body weight in organic material per day, converting pre-consumer food waste into three distinct output streams: insect protein, insect lipid, and frass (insect castings used as organic fertilizer). The lifecycle runs ~43× faster than cattle, requires a fraction of the land and water, and closes an open loop that would otherwise land in a dump or a methane-producing compost pile. A rare ingredient that nets positive on nutrition, feed economics, and waste diversion at the same time.

01 · The lineup

Six output
streams.

"Whole larvae for simplicity, meal for flexibility, defatted meal for protein concentration — pick by formulation goal."

Fresh & wet

Wet larvae

Fresh, live, or chilled — for on-farm aquaculture and poultry programs where the input can be dosed wet.

Treats & forage

Whole dried larvae

Shelf-stable, ready to dose — complete amino profile, full lipid retention. Pet treats and backyard poultry.

Flexible formulator

Full-spectrum meal

Ground, fat-inclusive meal — protein plus the native BSF lipid. Aquafeed and complete pet-food diets.

High-protein

Defatted meal

Up to ~70% protein — the concentrated, fat-reduced grade. Novel-protein and hypoallergenic pet-food formulations.

Lauric-acid energy

BSF oil

High in lauric acid (a medium-chain fatty acid). Digestible energy for juvenile pig starters, aquafeed, and premium pet diets.

Soil amendment

Frass fertilizer

Pelletized insect castings — a high-value organic soil amendment with chitin co-benefits. Also used as an aquafeed ingredient.

02 · Lifecycle

Waste in,
value out.

"A fully controlled indoor production loop from pre-consumer waste to ready-to-ship meal."

  1. 01
    Feedstock sourcing

Pre-consumer organic waste sourced and validated — consistent nutrition inputs, no contaminants.

  2. 02
    Larval rearing

Climate-controlled rearing using proprietary genetics and fixed-diet protocols. Short lifecycle, high conversion.

  3. 03
    Harvest & dry

Mature larvae harvested, cleaned, and dried for shelf stability — frass collected in parallel as a separate stream.

  4. 04
    Defat & grind

Mechanical oil extraction yields BSF oil; the press cake is milled into full-spectrum or defatted meal.

03 · Applications

Where it fits.

Complete amino profile, novel-protein positioning, and a sustainability story that reads well on-pack.

Aquaculture

Salmonid and shrimp feed — replaces or supplements fishmeal without the wild-catch pressure.

Pet food

Dog, cat, and exotic diets — ideal for hypoallergenic and limited-ingredient formulations (novel protein).

Pet treats

Whole dried larvae — functional treat positioning, clean single-ingredient label.

Poultry feed

Backyard and commercial layer diets — protein supplementation with behavioral enrichment benefit.

Swine starter

BSF oil in juvenile pig diets — lauric-acid-driven digestibility and weaning performance.

Horticulture

Frass as organic soil amendment — slow-release nutrients plus chitin (a plant-defense elicitor).

Sustainability

Circular by design.

  • Larvae eat >2× body weight daily
  • Lifecycle ~43× faster than cattle
  • Minimal water & land footprint
  • Diverts organic waste from landfill
  • Aligns with UN SDG positioning
Positioning notes

On-pack story.

Novel-protein, circular-economy, and waste-diversion narratives all land on-pack without stretching the claim. For allergen-sensitive pet-food lines, BSF reads as a true novel protein (no cross-reactivity with the common animal-protein allergens).

Regulatory status for BSF in food and feed varies by jurisdiction and animal species — we'll confirm fit for your target market before shipping.
